Snell’s Law demo

Have you ever looked at a straw in a glass of water and thought, “Why does it look broken?” It’s not broken, of course—it’s just light playing tricks on you. When light moves from air into water, it bends, and that bending follows a simple rule: Snell’s Law.

Snell’s law also applies to ultrasonic waves used in NDT. When using angled beams in UT, the waves aren’t traveling straight through—they’re bending as they enter the material. When ultrasonic waves move from one material to another, like from a coupling gel into steel, they bend according to that same fundamental principle: Snell’s Law.
