Failed an exam?

How to re-sit an ISO 9712 exam

If you fail part of an exam, you re-sit the failed element(s) not individual wrong questions. The written elements are General and Specific; if you fail either, you retake that entire element paper. The Practical has only two assessed elements: specimens and the work instruction. If you fail one or both, you re-sit only the failed element(s): complete specimen set for specimens; complete instruction for the work instruction. Minimum pass is 70% for each element; for practicals, AINDT requires 70% per specimen and for the work instruction [AINDT-005 §5.1.4; §5.2.4].

You may re-sit failed element(s) up to two times, not sooner than one month unless you complete further training acceptable to the certification body/AINDT. If you fail the second re-sit (third attempt), you must sit all examinations again as a new candidate [ISO 9712 §8.5 Re-examination; AINDT-005 §3.16].

Steps:

  • Confirm which element(s) you failed (General, Specific, or Practical elements).
  • Book a re-sit for those element(s) only.
  • If you need to re-sit inside one month, arrange further acceptable training first.
  • If a second re-sit (third attempt) is failed, plan for a full exam re-take including all components.

You can book a resit on our regular exam Fridays (Tonsley), re‑sit sessions run every two weeks.
Note: AINDT requires re‑exams to be scheduled no sooner than one month after your original exam (unless you’ve done additional approved training).
