Proficiency & External Competency Assessments

Proficiency Tests

A proficiency test is an assessment used to verify that an NDT technician can perform their duties to the required standard. It confirms that the individual maintains the necessary level of competence after initial certification. Proficiency tests are typically completed under supervision and involve performing specific testing tasks or interpreting results using approved samples or data. They are often used by employers or training bodies to confirm continued capability before renewal or recertification.

Key points:

  • Confirms ongoing technical skill and accuracy
  • Conducted under supervision using standardised test pieces or data
  • Supports employer authorisation and certification renewal requirements

External Competency Assessments

An external competency assessment is an independent evaluation carried out by an AQB, such as Kuzer. It confirms that a technician’s knowledge and skills meet the requirements of ISO 9712 and the AINDT certification scheme. These assessments are impartial and consistent, ensuring national and international compliance across the NDT industry.

Key points:

  • Conducted by independent AINDT-approved examiners
  • Confirms compliance with ISO 9712 standards
  • Provides assurance of competence across all NDT personnel and employers
